Field procedure

  • Find a spot where you are able to reach pond

  • Once you have found your spot, take the temperature of the pond with the thermometer

  • If there is more than one person, have someone put water on the two trays

     (One tray will be for vegetation and the other one will be for no vegetation)

  • Get the two nets and split(one in vegetation and the other one to no vegetation)

  • Data sheet people record the data on the device and another record the data on paper.

  • The two persons with the nets will need to make 5 swipes of their location

  • Once those five scoops are done. You are able to sort

  • Place your materials near you

  • You will need 3 petri dishes for each tray, two droppers, two medium size dishes, two tweezers, and two to three jars(depends)

  • Take 5 minutes or so to look at your tray

  • Label the jars(no vegetation,vegetation, field number,date and the location)

  • Once done, have someone  collect the materials

  • Choose another location if you wish and start all over from the first step.

Lab procedure:

 

  • Gather your materials, after you found your place to sort

  • Set your materials in your place

  • Make sure to sort out the jars with species one by one so it doesn't get mixed up.

  • Pour the jar with species in a medium sized dish.

  • Sort them out by the type of species they are

  • For each species that were collected in the same field number (only if they are the same) put them in a vial and label them( the field number,the initials of the people in the group,species name ,date,and the number of the species)

  • Put isopropyl in the vial to keep them good.

  • Once done,follow the steps again from the beginning

  • When your done put your vials with species in the order you wish to have, by date,field number or how ever.

  • Small  Petri Dishes(4 each tray)

  • Medium size dish(2)

  • Labeling paper

  • Pencil(2)

  • Small bucket(1)

  • Recording sheet

  • Thermometer (1)
